Our latest project took the ProArb Tree Services team over to Bredbury, Stockport, where we were tasked with safely dismantling five large conifer trees situated alongside a public road.
The trees had suffered damage during previous storms, leaving a number of snapped and hung-up limbs within the crowns. With restricted access and the trees positioned immediately beside the highway, the work required careful planning, specialist equipment and professional traffic management.
Safely Dismantling Five Large Conifers
Due to the condition, size and location of the trees, simply felling them from ground level wasn’t an option.
Our arborists dismantled the conifers progressively, removing sections in a controlled manner. A MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) provided safe access to the upper sections of the trees and allowed our arborists to work methodically around damaged and unstable branches.
The snapped limbs left hanging following previous storms were a particular concern. Removing these safely was an important part of the operation before the remaining sections of each tree could be dismantled.
Road Traffic Management and Lane Closure
Working directly alongside a live road added another challenge to this project.
Because access to the trees was limited, traffic management and a temporary lane closure were put in place to provide a safe working area for our arborists, equipment and passing road users.
Cones, temporary traffic signals, directional signage and tree cutting warning signs were positioned along the road while the work was underway.
This gave our team the controlled working space needed to operate the MEWP and safely manage the removal of timber without compromising public safety.
Specialist Tree Removal in Restricted Areas
Tree removal becomes considerably more complex when large trees are positioned next to roads, buildings, boundaries or other obstacles.
This Bredbury project required coordination between the arborists working at height and the ground crew managing the work area below. Sections were carefully removed and lowered where required, before the resulting branches and timber were processed and cleared from the site.
Despite five substantial conifers needing to be dismantled, the entire project was completed within one day, helping to keep disruption to local traffic to a minimum.
A great effort from everyone involved and another challenging tree removal completed safely by the ProArb team.
